About AI Prospects
Advanced AI will transform our world, but what are our options? What can AI become, and what can it do for us? After more than a decade at Oxford researching AI prospects, I’ve found that mainstream thinking is based on misconceptions about intelligence and the nature of tasks: really basic considerations that are the “second kind of obvious” — obvious once pointed out.
Getting past these misconceptions opens a view of the future in which we gain an enormously greater ability to do things, with cascading implications for technology, economics, environmental concerns, and military affairs.
AI Prospects will explore these implications with a focus on how changing options change the objective interests of powerful groups and institutions. These interests converge, and a widespread understanding of our options could lead to positive outcomes — a world that is secure, open, and broadly appealing.
The resulting insights are actionable.
